Color of Basanti: Aamir Khan’s films have a special identity. The films he works on are mostly hits. One of them is a film in which Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan refused to work and when it was released, it rocked the box office. The film we are talking about is Rang De Basanti. In this film, Siddharth, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Kunal Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan were seen in lead roles along with Aamir. Apart from this, Anupam Kher, Kiran Kher, Om Puri and Waheeda Rehman also had important roles. Bringing such a big star cast together was not easy for director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra.
Rakesh Omprakash wanted to cast Shahrukh Khan in the role of Lieutenant Ajay Singh Rathod and Hrithik in the role of Karan Singhania. In a conversation with IANS, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra had told that he had made many changes. This was a very big cast and I needed nine months for each actor.
Hrithik-Shahrukh said no
Rakesh said- I had talked to Hrithik for the role of Karan. He liked the script very much but he did not have time. Shahrukh was approached for the role of Ajay Rathod but his dates did not match. You cannot ask too many questions to Shahrukh. We have a healthy relationship. Finally R Madhavan and Siddharth were cast.
Won 4 National Awards
Rang De Basanti won the hearts of the audience. The film collected 53 crores in India and 97 crores worldwide. The film won four National Awards. Rang De Basanti was selected as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Academy Awards or Oscars, but it failed in the nomination.
